THE GRAND TOUR

St. Louis, MO… The St. Louis Public Library and the Campbell House Museum are proud to set sail on a nineteenth-century adventure as they partner to present "The Grand Tour" Exhibition, in Central Library's Great Hall, 1301 Olive Street, June 11 through August 22. Visitors to the Library can explore Europe and exotic locales via an exhibit drawn from the Library's rich collection of postcards, maps, travel guides, and photographs. The exhibit incorporates the story of the Campbells, a prominent St. Louis family who embarked on their own Grand Tour in 1867. Mementos from the Campbell House collection, including items from the family's frequent travels, will complement the exhibit. The Library's exhibition is FREE and open to the public.

After enjoying the Grand Tour Exhibition at the Library, visitors are encouraged to follow the well-marked path one block to take a guided tour of the Campbell House Museum. The Museum not only preserves the Campbells' house, but also their collection of original furniture, fixtures paintings, objects, and thousands of pages of family documents. In 2005, the Campbell House Museum completed a meticulous five-year restoration that returned the building to its opulent 1880s appearance, when the house was one of the centers of St. Louis society. Admission and a guided tour is $8 per person. Campbell House Museum members and children under 12 are FREE (Group rates available).

D-DAY: JUNE 6, 1944

On 6 June 2014, our nation will observe the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landing during World War II. It can truly be said that the soldiers, sailors, and airmen of this nation and its allies who planned and participated in this historic event delivered us all from evil, and for that they deserve our thanks!
