AMERICAN PASSENGER LISTS, SUBSTITUTE LISTS, & INDEXES, 1538-1940
The following bibliography is intended to serve as a checklist of many of the most important ship passenger lists and passenger list indexes available in print and microfilm formats in the collection of St. Louis Public Library. It is organized by the state (or colony) the immigrants arrived in and then chronologically by dates of arrival covered by the work in question. This organization scheme was chosen to assist genealogical researchers who are already fairly certain about an ancestor's entry port and approximate time of arrival in the United States, and want to know what's available for that port and time period in the collection of St. Louis Public Library.
Items in this bibliography are available in one or more of the following Central Library departments: HG (History & Genealogy); MI (Microforms); and ST (Stacks). Staff in the History & Genealogy (314-539-0385) and Microforms Departments (314-539-0368) can check indexed items for the public: or send your questions via email (we will need your mailing address if you are requesting any photocopies).
Item listings include date covered by source; title of source; place of publication; publisher; date of publication; and library location.
